After his education at the academy in Amsterdam, Henk Kolkmeijer went to Paris to further his education at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Completely in the spirit of the times, Kolkmeijer developed an abstract expressionist style. He painted still lifes and genre scenes, as well as religious subjects. Henk Kolkmeijer was a member of the Amsterdam artists' association Stuwing. As a teacher he was associated with various institutions, including the Instituut voor Beeldende Expressie in Amersfoort.
