Henri Maclean, born in 1898, lived and worked in Rotterdam with a few interruptions all his life. He initially painted still lifes, portraits, figures and landscapes in a naturalistic style. Over the years, his style became more expressionistic. In addition to paintings, he also made monumental wall paintings. Maclean was a member of the Nederlandse Kunstkring, the Haagse Kunstkring in The Hague and of the Rotterdam Artists Society.
