When the young Hippolythe Fournier started a painting study at the Académie Julian in Paris, the first exhibitions of the Impressionists also took place there. Initially he painted in the traditional style of the Paris Salon. At the beginning of the 20th century, his way of painting and choice of subject became more modern and he found a connection with Art Déco. From 1924 he made a name for himself with his illustrations for the popular weekly magazine 'La Vie Parisienne', in which he comments with humour on the lifestyle of the modern Parisienne. His Art Déco sculptures of dancers are also known, made in colourful patinated and gilded bronze and ivory.
