Hugo Hodiener (or Hodina) was born in Northern Moravia, now the northeastern part of the Czech Republic. The Moravian landscape mainly consists of dense forests, mountains, hills, deep gorges, clear rivers and vineyards. The artist was clearly influenced by this and painted, in impressionist style, many mountainous landscapes, sometimes with a somewhat alienating atmosphere.
