The etcher and painter Jacobus Sörensen was born in Amsterdam in 1812. His oeuvre reflects the demand of the art lovers in his time for romantic summer and winter landscapes and ice scenes. In addition, Sörensen, like his contemporary Jacobus Abels, mastered the technique of painting the night view. Several landscapes with setting sun and moonlit river views are known by him. We know little about the painter's life. He received his education at the Amsterdam Royal Academy, where he was a fellow student of Dominicus Antonius Peduzzi.
