biography of Johannes Nicolaas 'Jan' Empel

Painter of highly individually tinted, sometimes abstract still lifes and figures in which colour is an important means of expression. Van Empel was born in Utrecht, took lessons at the academies of The Hague and Amsterdam and studied for a year in Paris (1953-1954).
