biography of Johannes Hubertus 'Jan' Grégoire

Jan Grégoire is the ancestor of a well-known family of artists: son Paul was a famous sculptor, grandson Kenne is a painter and grandson Pépé is a sculptor like his father. Jan Grégoire was educated at academies in Maastricht, Brussels and Amsterdam, and also took lessons with Antoon Derkinderen and Rob Graafland. He was a versatile artist and worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist, writer, photographer and glazier. The subjects of his paintings are landscapes, (self) portraits, still lifes and religious scenes. He also designed and produced wall and glass paintings, including for church interiors. Grégoire was a member of Arti et Amicitae in Amsterdam.
