biography of Jan Jacob Gerstel

After training at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague, Jan Jacob Gerstel worked as a free artist (painter and graphic artist), but he also taught drawing. Gerstel mainly painted and etched landscapes and cityscapes. He was a member of the Rotterdam Kunstenaarssociëteit and of St. Lucas in Amsterdam.
