biography of Johannes Jacob Hendrik 'Jan' Swijser

The autodidact Jan Swijser mainly painted (flower) still lifes, but sometimes also landscapes and genre pieces. He lived and worked in his native city The Hague and later in life left for the Dutch East Indies to serve as a captain in the K.N.I.L. In 1890 he returned to the royal city, after which he contributed work for several consecutive years for exhibitions in The Hague and Rotterdam.
