biography of Jan van der Linde

The Amsterdam artist Jan van der Linde painted marines (beach and harbour views), landscapes and topographical cityscapes. The Zuiderzee in particular was a popular subject. Genre pieces by his hand are also known and he made copies after old masters. Van der Linde lived and worked in the capital for most of his life; in the years before 1914 he spent some time in Sloten (N.H.). He taught his son Johan van der Linde (1887-1956), who became a portrait and still life painter.
