The name and work of the painter Jan Verhoeven are hardly known in the Netherlands, probably because he lived and worked mainly in Paris. He painted female portraits and exotic dancers in a very personal, expressionist style. Around 1910-1915 he exhibited together with young French avant-garde painters at the Salon d 'Automne and the Salon des Indépendantsin Paris. His work was also shown at collective exhibitions at the famous Galerie Druet in Paris.
