biography of Johannes Anthonie Balthasar Stroebel

Stroebel was een leerling van de Academie in Den Haag onder leiding van Bart en Huib van Hove. Hij specialiseerde zich in het schilderen en aquarelleren van Oudhollandse interieurs met figuren, geïnspireerd op het werk van de 17e-eeuwse schilder Pieter de Hoogh. Zijn werk kenmerkt zich door een warm koloriet en een concentratie van een warm, vibrerend zonlicht op een muur, een schilderij, langs een trap of op een binnenplaats. Hij was Leermeester van onder andere Jacob Maris. Musea: o.a. Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam en Haags Gemeentemuseum.
