Johannes Gerardus Heijberg, a Rotterdam painter, was born in 1869 and received his education at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten. His oeuvre includes landscapes, figures and genre scenes, many of which deal with military life as a subject. From around 1917, as a drawing teacher at the Academy, he taught many young painters, including Willem de Koning and Jan van Heel. J.G. Heijberg was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. His work is part of the collection of the Army Museum in Delft and of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
