biography of Johannes Janson

The 18th-century Leiden painter Johannes Janson was originally an officer, but chose the painting profession at a later age. He specialized in painting landscapes, livestock and cityscapes of Leiden and the surrounding area. In his time he was a well-known wallpaper painter, as was his Dordrecht contemporary Jacob van Strij. Museums: Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Museum de Lakenhal Leiden, Teylers Foundation Haarlem, Museum Boymans van Beuningen Rotterdam and others.
