This sculptor was trained in Berlin, Breslau and Munich, after which he settled in Düsseldorf after a trip through Italy. Knubel mainly designed realistic wall sculptures in collaboration with well-known architects. He also made free work such as portrait busts, human figures and animals, which he regularly exhibited at important exhibitions. For the public space, the artist designed various statues and sculpture groups, of which the gilded bronze 'Pallas Athene' in Düsseldorf is one of the best known.
