Painter of finely elaborated sentimental anecdotal genre scenes. The traditional Dutch genre piece regained unprecedented popularity in the 2nd half of the 19th century. The most prominent genre painters worked in Amsterdam, including, in addition to Vetten, August Allebé, Hein Burgers, Mari ten Kate and Hendrik Hollander.
