Little is known about the life and oeuvre of the Viennese painter Josef Heimerl. He worked as a restorer and specialized as a painter in animals. His depictions of (young) cats and dogs were very popular, but he also painted hunting scenes and other depictions with animals in the leading role. In addition, there are genre scenes by his hand.
