J.J. Moerenhout was a Belgian painter of beach scenes and landscapes, often decorated with horses. He received his training in Antwerp from H. van der Poorten and in Paris from Horace Vernet, in his time a well known painter of history pieces and military performances. In 1824 and between 1831 and 1853 he lived in The Hague. In that period he also decorated work by Andreas Schelfhout and Louis Meijer.
