Little is known about the painter Josephine Bertha, or Joke, Hartmamn-Elias. She initially lived and worked in Eindhoven and then studied at the academy in The Hague and at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich. In 1932 she married the Hague painter Wibbo Hartman (1903) and settled in this city for good. From 1882 to 1991 she lived in Ede. The painter's oeuvre consists of landscapes, portraits and figures. She signed Hartman-Elias or simply Elias.
