biography of Juan Soler

The Spaniard Juan Soler showed his talent for drawing at an early age and enrolled in the art academy in his hometown, Madrid. He did not complete his studies, believing that he would benefit more from lessons with a master painter. Soler worked in the style of the French Impressionists such as Galien-Laloue and Luigi Loir in the early 20th century and the Belle Époque. He became beloved by a large audience as the painter who, with a few brushstrokes, brought his subjects of fashionable Paris and its elegantly dressed women to life. He traveled frequently to Paris, where he lived and worked for extended periods, and after his marriage, settled on the southern French coast.
