biography of Justus Pieter de Veer

Justus Pieter de Veer was one of the 19th-century Dutch painters of the military genre. These artists usually glorified military existence and showed a heroic world of courage, loyalty and strength. De Veer belonged to the small group of professional soldiers who devoted themselves to the genre. He lived and worked in The Hague, which housed three large barracks in the 19th century, and usually painted hussars and mounted artillerymen in action. Around 1880 G.H. Breitner and Isaac Israels give a more realistic view of military life in their work. Meer over deze brontekstBrontekst vereist voor aanvullende vertaalinformatie Feedback sturen Zijvensters
