Leo Eland is one of the most important representatives of the Indies school. He was born in 1884 in Salatiga on the island of Java. Between 1920 and 1929 he came to the Netherlands for good, where he lived and worked in The Hague. His oeuvre mainly consists of colourful, impressionistic landscapes, often decorated with figures. He also made dioramas and panorama paintings for colonial exhibitions.
