Louwerencius Plas was a house and carriage painter by profession, but he also painted landscapes, as did his father (1776-1847) and his son Pieter (1810-1853). He lived and worked for most of his life in his native city of Alkmaar. In 1871 he settled in Amsterdam. The artist took part in the annual Exhibition of Living Masters several times, including in Amsterdam (1862) and Rotterdam (1873). The Stedelijk Museum in Alkmaar owns a painting by Louwerencius Plas.
