biography of Ludwig Gebhardt

The German Romantic painter Ludwig Gebhardt briefly attended the academy, but further developed his painting himself. Gebhardt had a great love for the landscape and traveled extensively to acquire motifs for his paintings through outdoor study. From his native Munich, the river landscape along the Isar, the Chiemsee and the Bavarian promontory of the Alps were favourite destinations. Gebhardt also traveled to Tyrol and northern Italy, as far as the Adriatic Sea. The artist regularly exhibited his work at the annual exhibitions at the Glaspalast in Munich from 1869.
