biography of Maaike Braat-Rolvink

Maaike Braat-Rolvink was a post-impressionist artist. She made paintings, watercolours, drawings and graphics. She lived and worked in Arnhem until 1931, after which she spent a year in Paris. Back in the Netherlands she married the sculptor Leo Braat. Maaike Braat-Rolvink is best known for her special view on landscapes. She once said: “I always have to have a view and I often make it wider than it really is.” She was often described as a specialist in painting mountains, snow and ice and was awarded a silver medal in Paris in recognition for her watercolours.
