biography of Maria 'Marie' Kelting

Marie Kelting was born in Amsterdam in 1886 and was taught by August Allebé and Dirk Berend Nanninga. Like more female painters at that time, she could often be found in Artis where she painted birds and other animals and developed into a well-known animal painter. Marie Kelting married reptile caretaker P.Th. Böhncke, who would later become a sculptor. In 1923, the couple moved to Blaricum, where she mainly focused on painting landscapes, flowers and still lifes.
