biography of Mathilde Marie Auguste von Sachsen

Princess Mathilde Marie Auguste von Sachsen was a daughter of King Georg von Sachsen. After being rejected twice by a marriage candidate, she devoted herself entirely to painting. She undertook many journeys, including to the Middle East, and from 1890 to 1901 studied with the Dresden artist Alfred Diethe. Her oeuvre includes landscapes and genre pieces, including scenes of court life in Pillnitz.
