biography of Maurice Paul

The painter Maurice Paul was born in the Belgian city of Mons in 1889. After completing his education, Paul travelled back and forth between Brussels, Ostend and the French Côte d'Azur in search of his preferred motifs: the seemingly artless rhythmic arrangement of brightly hued houses, bustling village squares, colourful harbours and bathers on the beach. His compositions are deft in their arrangement, colourful, and have an affinity with traditional Impressionism in their studied depiction of light effects at different points of the day.
