Maurice Wyckaert is regarded as one of the most important Belgian post-war painters. He was born in Brussels in 1923 where he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Around 1960 Wyckeart developed his own style, characterized by a colourful palette. He was also co-founder of art magazine De Meridiaan and member of the art movement Situationistische Internationale. Various works by Wyckaert have recently been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in Brussels. This museum describes his later abstract work as 'interior landscapes' that sprouted from his own fantasy and are not based on reality.
