biography of 'Maurits' Cornelis Escher

Maurits Cornelis Escher, draftsman and graphic artist, specialized in what he called 'metamorphoses': changing forms that merge into one another and spread in an infinite repetition. His unique and fascinating graphic work lies at the interface of mathematics and art and is a visualization of sometimes complex mathematical ideas. He was very interested in 'impossible' and paradoxical constructions. Very remarkable, because he understood nothing about mathematics. Now and then he also converted his woodcuts and etchings into three-dimensional work.
