biography of Max Rimböck

At the age of 13, the Müncher artist Max Rimböck can be found in the 'Alten Pinakothek' to copy Titian's 'Madonna with Child'. Five years later, he starts his studies at the art academy, makes several trips through Europe and joins the Münchner artists' association. His oeuvre is versatile: from portraits and landscapes to history paintings and depictions of saints. Rimböck was not fond of the abstract style that his contemporaries embraced. He opposed the new art movements and became, in his own words, 'more and more aware that the main task of art must be to bring joy to man'. As far as he was concerned, that joy lay in impressionism, in which he opts for bright colors and appealing subjects.
