biography of Oswald Wijnen

This 18th-century painter was born in 1736 in Heusden (The Netherlands). His specialization was watercoloring of lush flower and fruit still lifes. This colorful work on paper is therefore very representative of the oeuvre of Oswald Wijnen. His great example was the famous Amsterdam flower painter Jan van Huijsum. He is known for his flower still lifes composed of flowers from various seasons. The Wijnen drawings were purchased by, among others, his contemporary and one of the most important art collectors in the Netherlands, Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (1726-1798). Today the Teylers Museum in Haarlem owns several works by the watercolorist, who died in Amsterdam in 1790.
