The oeuvre of the Antwerp artist Paul Hagemans is versatile. He painted genre scenes, portraits, landscapes and historical and religious subjects. He also worked as a graphic artist and as a designer of murals, theater decors and glass windows. His style can be described as post-impressionist / luminist. It has been written about him that he 'paints with a brush and palette knife, thick in paint and with great luminosity:' his painting is sturdy and in an optimistic colour pallette'. Hagemans was educated at the Brussels academy. He is the son of the landscape painter Maurice Hagemans (1868-1928).
