Philip Windt lived and worked all his life in The Hague. He was educated at the Hague Academy and then received a scholarship from King Willem III. The artist was born in 1847 and thus belonged to the second heyday of the Hague School. The beach of Scheveningen with its bombs and fishermen was often a source of inspiration.
