biography of Pierre Thevenet

Pierre Thevenet, self-taught, was a musician before choosing to paint in 1910. During that time he often spent time in Brussels with Marcel Jeffrys and Frans Van Montfort and painted many landscapes and still lifes in a luminist style. Around 1919 he leaves for Paris, a city he will return to all his life. He came into contact with Henri Matisse, painted in Montmartre and along the Seine and his work shows some influence from Utrillo. He opts for quick, short brushstrokes on an even or clear, white background. Back in Belgium, he paints the landscape at Anseremme. Thevenet's clear, tingling oeuvre includes cityscapes, landscapes and still lifes.
