biography of Pieter van Borselen

Pieter van Borselen worked in Gouda from 1825-1849 and after 1854 in The Hague. He taught his son J.W. van Borselen, who preferred to depict the Dutch polders and developed into one of the greatest landscape painters in the Netherlands. Pieter's oeuvre is less specialized: he also painted cityscapes, river landscapes, ice scenes and beach and dune views near Noordwijk. Unlike his son's work, Pieter van Borselen's paintings are rarely offered.
