Reinhard Dachlauer is one of the well-known German sculptors of the 20th century. Animals were his main source of inspiration and served as models for both monumental, free-standing sculptures and small sculptures in bronze. The artist only started an artistic career at a later age. From 1963 he received commissions for sculptures in public space, such as for the zoos of Berlin and Münster. From 1975 he took part in major exhibitions, including in the Haus der Kunst in Munich. The appeal of his work lies in the combination of great expressiveness with simplicity of form.
