biography of Louis Marie 'René' Choprix

René Choprix favoured nudes and landscapes, but also painted flower still lifes, fish and interior scenes with figures. After completing his training at the art academy in Brussels, the interwar years saw Choprix produce countless nudes in exotics settings, in a style closely tied to Art Deco. After the Second World War his subjects became more idealised, and he also painted allegorical landscapes. In 1954 Choprix became fascinated with the Stromboli volcano, painting works that focused on mineral elements.
