The English artist Richard Whincop studied art history and taught it until he decided to become an artist in 1988. He adheres to the principle that the artist must be able to move freely between all artistic disciplines. He is involved in painting, architecture, applied art and graphic design. After 2002 he has had great success with his series of figurative paintings in which he connects art from the past with contemporary existence. He also plays with the meaning of the painting as a window on reality, which lasted well into the 19th century.
