biography of Rob Birza

Rob Birza is seen as an important artist in contemporary Dutch visual art. Birza has worked for a number of years at De Ateliers in Amsterdam, where he has also been a tutor artist since 1995. In his works he sets the law himself; he does not take any notice of rules and does not want to limit himself to one style or one medium, which fits well with the eighties in which Birza made his debut. Painting with egg tempera is typical of his early works, later he also started making sculptures, sets, installations and ceramics. Birza has had several solo exhibitions (in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, among others) and many group exhibitions throughout Europe.
