Siem Wardenaar taught himself how to sculpt and cast bronze. From the age of forty, after a farmer's existence, he devoted himself entirely to art. In the beginning of his career as an artist he also painted, but from the nineties he only makes sculptures and some ceramics. Figures of humans and animals are Wardenaar's favourite subjects; he produces small sculptures, but also life-size sculptures. A statue of his hand has been placed in various villages and towns, including in Haarlem, Den Helder, Zeewolde and Heemskerk.
