The oeuvre of the Brussels painter Simon van Gelderen is thematically diverse: he painted - in impressionist style - landscapes, hunting scenes, cityscapes, church interiors and still lifes. His paintings have been described as 'spontaneous, lively, elegant, true to nature, in a pleasant color and as a finger exercise towards virtuosity'. Van Gelderen was educated at the Academy of Sint Lucas and the Academy of Visual Arts in his native city.
