Theo Lohmann was born in Leiden in 1880. He was a very independent artist, self-taught, skilled draftsman, etcher and painter of town and village views, landscapes and snowscapes. His style evolved from a loosely painted impressionism to magical realism. At a young age, Lohmann traveled on foot through France, then lived in a caravan for five years from 1908, lived in The Hague and finally left for Blaricum in 1919. In 1964 an exhibition was devoted to his work in the Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal in Leiden.
