Waldemar Otto trained at the Berlin University of the Arts and has lived and worked in the Worpswede artists' colony in Germany since 1976. He works with themes, of which his torso is a part. The human body and themes from classical antiquity recur in various forms. He works not from a model but from nature'from memory, often in an abstract way. Otto's sculptures are displayed in public spaces in several German cities, including two sculptural groups on the Hamburg stock exchange. In 2009, on his 80th birthday, a major exhibition was dedicated to his work at the Gerhard Marcks Haus in Bremen.
