biography of 'Willem' Adriaan Paerels

Dutch born Willem Paerels lived the greater part of his life in Belgium. He studied at the Polytechnic School in his native town of Delft before finally deciding to make his living as a painter. Self-taught, he worked mainly in an impressionist or fauvist style. His varied choice of subject matter included harbour and city views, interiors, landscapes, still lifes and figure paintings. Paerels was also a founder member of 'Le Labeur', the Brussels artists society. Along with Rik Wouters and Ferdinand Schirren he then formed 'De Brusselse Coloristen', later known as 'de Brabantse Fauvisten'. Willem Paerels’ s work can be found in the collections of Het Haags Gemeentemuseum and Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
