biography of Wilhelmus Hendrikus 'Wim' Heinecke

Wim Heinecke began painting at an early age, starting his artistic career as a commercial and decorative painter. He attended evening classes at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam, where his instructors included J.G. Heijberg and David Bautz. Heinecke's preferred subject was Rotterdam: the water, ships in the harbour, drays and sand carts, the Noordplein flea market and the narrow streets in summer and wintertime. He also painted the Laurenskerk church and the port after the bombing of May 1940. His oeuvre further includes landscapes and flower still lifes. Heinecke was one of the driving forces behind the De Eendracht artists' society and a board member of the BBK professional artists' association for 21 years.
