biography of Willem 'Wim' Schippers

In his younger years, the self-taught Wim Schippers lived and worked alternately in the Netherlands and the Dutch East Indies, Amsterdam and since 1954 in Naarden. He received painting advice from J.F. Niemandsverdriet and had long-term contacts with Piet Ouborg. In addition to free work, Schippers also made book illustrations. His depictions are predominantly illustrative narrative with a surrealistic undertone. Later work is more abstract, with Schippers using the collage technique as a new means of expression in addition to his painting and graphics.
