The Noordholland artist Wouter Piersma initially painted mainly port views, but also landscapes. For this he got inspired in the vicinity of his birthplace Velsen and nearby IJmuiden. Later, from the sixties, in a lyrical abstract style, he painted human-like fantasy creatures influenced by post-war Cobra artists and the Art Brut. In the 70s Piersma worked under the name Ipitsj.
