biography of Wouter van Smorenburg

Wouter van Smorenburg is one of the painters who were inspired by the polder land and the lakes around Muiderberg and Kortenhoef. Initially he worked in the dark palette of the Hague School, but between 1910 and 1915 he innovated. He transitions to a powerful pointille in short, broad brushstrokes and uses a lighter palette. He depicts apparently simple subjects such as the Dutch water landscape with fields, ditches and willows under moving cloudy skies with bravura and in fine color nuances.
