The French artist Alfred-Arthur de Brunel de Neuville painted still lifes of flowers and/or fruits, as well as representations of fish, shellfish and crustaceans. However, he owed his artistic success to paintings depicting cats in all kinds of possible situations. Brunel de Neuville regularly exhibited his work from 1879 at the Paris Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member of the association from 1907.
